Description

What will the cameras see with different lenses? This is a general guide for 1/3” CCD cameras. Distances indicated are from the camera to the centre point of the scene or subject. (In this example, from the camera location to the front of the red car)

Lenses

Code CCT104/144 Standard Camera (3.6mm), Horizontal field of view 72 degrees.
A vehicle registration should be distinguished at around 4 - 6 mtrs or less.
Code CCT106/146 ZOOM 6 Camera (6mm), Horizontal field of view 44 degrees.
A vehicle registration should be distinguished at around 6 - 8.5 mtrs or less.
Code CCT108/148 ZOOM 8 Camera (8mm), Horizontal field of view 34 degrees.
A vehicle registration should be distinguished at around 14 - 16 mtrs or less.
Code CCT112/149 ZOOM 12 Camera (12mm), Horizontal field of view 23 degrees.
A vehicle registration should be distinguished at around 18 - 22 mtrs or less.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The above information is to be used as a guide only.The distance at which a number plate can be identified has been verified using a 14” monitor and a 20” TV. Expect similar results from a good quality 12”+ monitor. Other factors affecting the distance at which a number plate will be recognisable include:- light level, the angle of the camera to its target, the quality of monitor or TV used and the quality of the cabling and installation.
